About the release

The Mega Evolution series keeps building and Chaos Rising is the next chapter. The fourth English Mega Evolution set releases on 22 May 2026 and puts Mega Greninja ex front and centre, joined by a wave of Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Evolutions making their TCG debut. If you have been following the Mega Evolution era, this is the set where the Greninja line gets its moment.

The set is based closely on the Japanese Ninja Spinner expansion and clocks in at just over 120 cards. Like Phantasmal Flames and Perfect Order before it, this is a tighter set by modern standards, which keeps the hit pool focused and gives collectors a cleaner target to chase.

Prereleases run from 9 to 17 May 2026, giving local game stores their first look before the full launch. You can browse Pokémon sealed products on Side Kicks as listings go live ahead of release.

Set overview and rarities

Chaos Rising is translated almost directly from Japan's Ninja Spinner set, which is why the card count sits at a tight 122. That is a small set by recent standards, but it means every slot in the checklist is doing work. There is no filler padding the numbers here.

The set introduces five new Mega Evolution Pokémon ex and five standard Pokémon ex, with a solid illustration rare and special illustration rare count for collectors chasing artwork. Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Floette ex and Mega Dragalge ex all make their TCG debut here alongside Mega Greninja ex, with all of them pulling from the Pokémon Legends: Z-A universe.

Card breakdown:
  • 122 cards total
  • 5 Mega Evolution Pokémon ex
  • 5 Pokémon ex
  • 11 illustration rare Pokémon
  • 18 ultra rare Pokémon and Trainer cards
  • 6 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
  • 20 plus Trainer cards
  • 35 plus cards with special illustration treatments

Editor's chase list

With only six special illustration rares in the set, the hit pool is tight. That makes every SIR pull feel more meaningful, and it concentrates collector attention on a smaller number of key cards. Here is what to target:

  • Mega Greninja ex special illustration rare — the headline pull of the set
  • Mega Pyroar ex, Mega Floette ex and Mega Dragalge ex — TCG debuts, strong collector demand expected
  • Illustration rare Pokémon — 11 in the set, Fennekin and Froakie likely among the most wanted given the Greninja connected artwork
  • Fennekin Illustration Rare ETB promo — the standard ETB exclusive, low print relative to booster supply
  • Pokémon Center stamped Fennekin promo — harder to find, worth chasing if you collect stamped promos
  • Supporter special illustration rares — 6 total across the set, always popular with character collectors

Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box — £55

The Pokémon Center exclusive ETB comes with 11 booster packs, a Fennekin Illustration Rare promo with Pokémon Center stamp, plus the full accessories bundle including sleeves, energy cards, dice and a Froakie coin. The stamped promo is the key difference here and the main reason to go Pokémon Center over standard retail.

Elite Trainer Box — £45

The standard ETB includes 9 booster packs and the Fennekin Illustration Rare promo without the stamp, plus the full accessories set. At £45 it is the cleanest entry point for most UK collectors and the best way to get packs alongside a promo without going full booster box.

Booster Bundle — £25

6 booster packs in compact packaging. A solid low-commitment option for casual openings or a first look at the set before committing to a bigger product.

Booster Box — £145

36 packs per box. The main option for ripping and case breaks. With only 122 cards in the set and a tight SIR pool, a booster box should give strong odds at multiple ultra rares and a reasonable shot at special illustration rares.

Build and Battle Box

The prerelease product. Includes a 40-card ready-to-play deck with a stamped exclusive promo, alongside 4 booster packs. Pricing TBC. Available at participating local game stores during the prerelease window, 9 to 17 May 2026.
