About the release
Nike is flipping the script on one of the Air Max 95's most iconic colourway executions. The 'Reverse Solar Red' takes the original Solar Red greyscale gradient — dark at the bottom, light at the top — and inverts it. Now the darker hues sit at the top of the wavy side panels and fade down to lighter greys and white toward the midsole. It's a small logic shift, but it changes how the whole shoe reads. Style code IV6425-060.
The build follows the same recipe as the Reverse Neon that dropped exclusively at MoMA in early 2025 — a design based on a Sergio Lozano development sketch. Black mesh and suede construct most of the upper, with cutout layered panels on the sides referencing Lozano's musculoskeletal anatomy inspiration. Solar Red accents appear on the nylon lace loops, the small collar Swoosh, the Air Max tongue branding and inside the Big Bubble Air units. White laces break up the dark upper. Underfoot, the Big Bubble Air Max tooling keeps the proportions true to the original 1995 build.
UK release is Friday 17 July 2026 for £175 via Nike and select Nike Sportswear retailers.

Design and details
Most AM95 colourways over the past year have leaned on tributes, football references or full collab work. The 'Reverse Solar Red' takes a different angle — it plays with the silhouette's own design logic and inverts it. The result is a shoe that anyone familiar with the standard Solar Red will immediately recognise as a proper flip rather than a new palette.
Inverted greyscale gradient
The AM95 gradient normally runs dark at the base and lighter as it rises — a design decision tied to Sergio Lozano's original musculoskeletal inspiration. This one reverses it entirely. Black lands at the top across the toecap, mesh netting, tongue and sockliner. Lighter greys transition through the suede midfoot panels, and the tonal ladder fades to white by the time it reaches the midsole. The Nike Air branding on the heel keeps its usual placement.
Cutout anatomical panels
The wavy side panels — the defining visual element of the AM95 — are executed as cutout layered panels that emphasise Lozano's original musculoskeletal design intent. The material rotation runs across black mesh, suede and synthetic overlays, giving the shoe a properly layered material story despite sitting in a mostly monochrome palette.
Solar Red accents
The Solar Red doesn't take over — it's placed strategically to give the neutral palette its identity. Red appears on the nylon lace loops, the small Swoosh at the collar, the Air Max branding on the tongue, and inside the Big Bubble Air units. The red inside the Air windows is the standout — as the Air cushioning is visible through the semi-translucent bubble, the internal Solar Red glows through in a way you don't get on standard grey-and-red executions.
Big Bubble tooling
Underfoot, the shoe sits on Nike's Big Bubble Air Max tooling — the larger visible Air unit that references the original 1995 production setup. Nike returned the Big Bubble build to the AM95 line during the 30th anniversary run last year, and it now sits as the standard for premium AM95 releases. The tooling change matters here because the bigger Air unit puts more surface area of that Solar Red glow on display.

Reverse Neon, Reverse Solar Red and Lozano's original sketch
The 'Reverse' concept isn't new. Nike first released the Reverse Neon in early 2025 as a MoMA exclusive — a limited release tied to Sergio Lozano's original development work on the Air Max 95. During the design process, Lozano sketched an inverted version of the greyscale gradient — dark at the top, light at the bottom — as one of the options considered. The final 1995 release went with the standard orientation, but the sketch stayed in the archive.
The Reverse Neon brought that alternative version to shelves for the first time, sitting alongside the standard Neon reissue during the AM95's 30th anniversary programme. It sold out quickly and remained one of the most in-demand releases of the anniversary run. The Reverse Solar Red takes the same treatment and applies it to the second-most iconic AM95 colourway — a proper follow-through on the concept rather than a one-off gimmick.
The Air Max 95 turned 30 in 2025, and 2026 continues the run with plenty more still to come — Comet, Grape and Greedy retros, a golf-specific AM95, and the 7-Eleven and Lawson konbini tributes. The 'Reverse Solar Red' fits neatly into that programme as one of the more thoughtful design conversations of the year.

FAQ
When is the Nike Air Max 95 'Reverse Solar Red' UK release date?
The Nike Air Max 95 'Reverse Solar Red' releases on Friday 17 July 2026 via Nike and select Nike Sportswear retailers, online and in-store.
How much does the Nike Air Max 95 'Reverse Solar Red' cost in the UK?
UK retail price is £175. US retail is $190.
What is the style code for the Air Max 95 'Reverse Solar Red'?
The style code is IV6425-060. The full colourway runs across Anthracite, Solar Red, Light Graphite, Light Charcoal, Pearl Grey and Black.
What does 'Reverse' mean on this AM95?
The AM95 normally runs a greyscale gradient with darker tones at the base fading to lighter tones at the top. The Reverse Solar Red flips that logic — darker hues sit at the top of the wavy side panels and fade down to lighter greys and white by the midsole. The concept comes from an original Sergio Lozano development sketch that was never used on the standard 1995 release.
Does this Air Max 95 use Big Bubble tooling?
Yes. The 'Reverse Solar Red' sits on Nike's Big Bubble Air Max tooling — the larger visible Air unit that matches the original 1995 production setup. Nike returned to the Big Bubble build for the AM95's 30th anniversary run and it's now standard on premium AM95 releases.
Is this related to the Reverse Neon?
Yes. The Reverse Neon dropped in early 2025 as a MoMA exclusive during the AM95's 30th anniversary programme, based on the same Lozano development sketch. The Reverse Solar Red applies the same treatment to the AM95's second-most iconic colourway — an intentional follow-through on the 'Reverse' concept.
